Big Brothers Big Sisters Prepares to Go Over The Edge
Urban Rappelling Event Takes on Bank of America Plaza

If you are in downtown Nashville on Friday, April 20, you may see some individuals dangling from the top of 291 feet at the Bank of America Plaza. Not to worry, they are participating in Over the Edge Nashville, a fundraising campaign for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and they are perfectly safe.

This is the third year for Big Brothers Big Sisters to hold the urban rappelling fund-raising event, and the first year to be scaling Bank of America Plaza.

Spectators, supporters, and any participants who might lose their nerve will be on the plaza grounds below for a fun “Drop Zone Party” at the adjacent Patio 315 of the Doubletree Hotel from 10 am to 4 pm with a live deejay announcing the individuals coming down, and there will be several booths for folks to check out.

Participants, called ‘Edgers’ by event standards, are of any age, and as long as they weigh between 100-300 pounds, and have successfully fund-raised a minimum of $1,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters, they can rappel. There is no previous climbing or rappel experience required.

“We have a lot of supporters who enjoy a challenge, and several that have some ‘bucket list’ items involving heights,” commented Carlyle Carroll, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. He continued, “Over the Edge allows us to offer a very unique fund-raising option for this area that helps young people reach their goals in life, just as our participants reach new heights as well.”

“There are a lot of volunteers joining us on event day to make sure everything runs smoothly for our Edgers,” commented Carroll. “We are so grateful for their assistance, especially this month during National Volunteer Month!”

This Nashville event is being conducted by Over the Edge USA, a national touring fundraising event company. They have been in operation for 20 years and conducted 500 events across the country for various nonprofit organizations.
