Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee Awarded $25,000 Grant on Behalf of Northwestern Mutual Financial Professional
Chad Greer receives top honors in national Community Service Award

To celebrate the importance of volunteerism, Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation, is awarding grants on behalf of exemplary financial professionals to nonprofits nationwide.

Local resident Chad Greer, a Wealth Management Advisor at Northwestern Mutual in Nashville, has been selected as one of four national recipients of the company’s 2017 Community Service Award. He has received a $25,000 grant for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee.

The grant will be used to support the Amachi program, which serves children of incarcerated parents. These children are the often the most at risk. Without intervention, children of prisoners are 70% more likely than their peers to go to prison than graduate from high school.

Greer has volunteered with the organization since 2010 in multiple roles. A Big Brother for the past seven years, Greer mentored his Little Brother as he grew from an introverted six-year-old struggling in school into a confident 12-year-old attending a top charter school. Greer has also served in a number of leadership and fundraising roles. He helped raise money to save the Amachi program when it lost federal funding, guided the organization as a board member for the past five years and currently serves as board president.

“The Amachi program is close to my heart, and one that directly impacts my Little Brother,” said Greer. “This grant will help change these kids’ lives, providing the additional support and guidance they need.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee serves as a catalyst for one-on-one relationships between students and volunteers, providing kids with a positive mentorship experience.

When members of the community come together to make a difference, there are no limits to what can be accomplished,” said Eric Christophersen, president, Northwestern Mutual Foundation. “Chad has demonstrated the true value of dedicating one’s time and skills to improve the lives of others through his commitment to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee.”
